The Chris Paul media love continues.

Tell me what’s wrong with this picture from today’s Daily Dime?

8>3

The column has nothing to do with Chris Paul.  But I guess since he didn’t play last night, they have to put his picture in somewhere.

Amazing.

UPDATE:  Thanks for this tidbit from Nick.  It’s in the comments, but in case you’re reading this from the main page,

It gets worse. I read this thing last night, and it originally mentioned how Paul finished March with 199 assists, making him be one short of being the only PG in the last 10 years other than Nash to finish a month with 200 or more assists. But then somebody noticed, oops, Williams had 212 this month, so they changed it. Isn’t that interesting, Paul’s almost matching a substantial achievement matters more than Williams actually doing it.

Question, why not make it a story about Williams instead? Oh. . .right.

Daily Dime isn’t exactly renowned for its accuracy, as Basketbawful illustrates at the end of this post.

Man, good find. That is such bull&^%*.

  3. Nick Says:

I also enjoy how, by the time they actually posted this, it wasn’t even true anymore, what with Williams ending up with 212 assists in March, thereby making the post incorrect and irrelevant. Also, I wonder how long until they mention that Williams did, in fact, finish March with over 200 assists? I won’t hold my breath.

I’m going to put this comment on the main story. Thanks for the info.

AHH. I feel like sucha blonde. I should have figured it wasn’t true. Haha. But, good try. Anywhoo. I just don’t understand why Deron doesn’t get any love from the national media. He is sooooo much better than CP3, and as I’ve said before he’s A LOT hotter, and that is what’s really important. Duh.

  7. Danielle Says:

So, if you were to head over to nba.com right now you would find CP3 on not only 1 but 2 of the top stories that run when you log on. ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME???

The chris paul hate is hilarious. Can’t you homers appreciate a point guard who is probably going to go down in history as one of the best ever to play the game? Deron is great, don’t get me wrong, but he isn’t in the same class as Paul and he never was. Paul is far and away better statistically (except, I guess in assists in March… which is a ridiculously made up stat anyway and, since the Jazz played one more game than the Hornets in the month, it could go either way). Paul is a better defensive player and a better rebounder in spite of his height. Paul’s supporting cast is less talented than Deron’s. Don’t even try and cite David West’s all-star selection because you know he doesn’t make it on any other team in the league. Chill out on the hate and enjoy two spectacular point guards but, remember, no matter how you argue it, Chris Paul is better.

Jake clearly doesn’t read this site very often. The “hate” is that Paul is the darling of the NBA and that when they wanted to write another feel-good story about Paul, once they found out that Williams actually was the better story, they simply changed stories. They didn’t rewrite the story about Deron, THEY PUT UP ANOTHER STORY. I think any reasonable person can say that Chris Paul is better, I know I think it. At least for now. You won’t find a single person who frequents this site that will say that Chris Paul isn’t good. Resorting to statistics, though, is a fool’s argument. As the saying goes, “there are lies, DAMN lies, and statistics.”

Statements like these: “[Deron] isn’t in the same class as Paul and he never was.” and “Can’t you homers appreciate a point guard who is probably going to go down in history as one of the best ever to play the game?” show that you are just as big a homer as we are here, plus they are ridiculous. Find another place for your superiority complex, it doesn’t belong here.

  10. Nick Says:

Jake, you’re doing a terrific job of missing the point. The issue isn’t, primarily, Paul or even whether he’s better than Williams or not. The issue is that the media goes on and on and on about Paul and never says jack about Williams apart from to mention, occasionally, that Williams isn’t as good. Don’t even try to deny this, I read the major sports websites everyday, the disparity is ridiculous. This would be like if the media always praised Kevin Garnett but almost completely ignored Tim Duncan, or vice versa. And you’re half write about the month statistic being dumb, which is entirely part of the issue: This somewhat arbitrary accomplishment matters when Paul almost does it, but it doesn’t matter when Williams actually does accomplish it.

Also, I gotta say that you’re living proof of the negative impact of the media-hype. Only someone who endlessly listened to the pro-Paul din from commentators w/o much watching Williams would come to the conclusion that Williams isn’t in the same class as Paul. 2 points and 1 assist a game equals a different class? Well, Williams shoots about 2% better from the field and 3% better from outside, so I guess he’s in a completely different class from Paul in terms of jumpshooting. Maybe Paul is better, though I doubt anyone, including analysts, has watched enough of both of them to say definitively, but no way is he remotely in a “different class” from any remotely objective standpoint.

    AND ANOTHER THING!! (lol)
It’s really quite funny to see the reactions of Paul lovers when someone has the AUDACITY to suggest that Chris Paul isn’t actually Jesus Christ himself, resurrected and playing basketball for the New Orleans Hornets. What’s so fun about sports is the debate. Get off your high horse and come join us mortals without the conclusive statements.

  12. Danielle Says:

I’m sure that CP3 is a great person and deserves all of the love he gets, BUT, Deron is equally deserving. As ya’ll have said, the issue isn’t whether or not if Paul or Deron is better, it’s how they are recognized. If you look at stats, they are pretty much on the same level. I don’t know why the media hate on Deron and the entire Jazz team. I mean really, there are major disparities here. So, why don’t you Hornets homies leave us Jazz cronies alone. We will continue thinking D. Will is better and ya’ll can think CP3 is better. There are 2 facts you can’t deny though, head-to-head Deron is better, and Deron won the Skills challenge on Paul’s home turf……

When I approved Jake’s comment last night, I was ready to write up a rebuttal. But you guys took care of it admirably. And I don’t think there was even any name calling.
