Rocky Mountain Revue Prevue - Utah Jazz

Before the Jazz take on the Hawks tomorrow night, here’s my short breakdown of the Jazz attendees and their chances at making the team.  There’s probably only 2-3 open spots depending upon what happens to CJ & Hoffa.

22  Morris Almond    G    6-6    215   Rice               R
===========================================================
Will he see the light of day at the SG position?  If MoPete signs, not likely.  But if Pete doesn’t come here and CJ decides to go, he could…  Who am I kidding?  The Jazz will still sign a veteran.  But at least he has the $2 million and can buy a Tahoe for Utah winters.

    Kyrylo Fesenkso  C    7-1    230   Ukraine            R
===========================================================
No Tahoe for this guy.  He might be better off riding Trax (local transit) than buying a $3k car that won’t make it two months.  This guy is definitely a project.  He’s tall and quick and has an above average shot but that’s about it.  He’ll be an instant fan-favorite for mop-up time.

55  Rafael Araujo    C    6-11   270   BYU                3
===========================================================
No contract.  Third year player.  Doesn’t have to be here.  He’s the opposite of CJ Miles.  Still coming early and leaving late from practice.  He plays Sloan ball so I expect him to be back barring a better offer from another team.

 9  Ronnie Brewer    G    6-7    218   Arkansas           1
===========================================================
Should be at least the backup SG/SF this year.  Needs to work on his shot in the Revue.  If Peterson signs, he’ll be coming off the bench.  If not, he’ll probably start with a good showing.

24  Paul Millsap     F    6-8    245   Louisiana Tech     1
===========================================================
Some kid from LaTech.  Jazz might want to take a flier on him. I have a good feeling about him.  Anyway, led the NCAA in rebounding three years straight, got passed over because of his height, should have been NBA All-rookie first team, will get a huge payraise in a couple years.  He could contend for 6th man award this year.  One of the biggest fan favorites since another LaTech forward roamed here.

11  Dee Brown        G    6-0    181   Illinois           1
===========================================================
He’s looking to solidfy his position as the backup PG.  Now that Fisher is a Laker, the job is pretty much his to lose.  He’ll get some competition from Eddie Gill.  The Jazz may still bring in a vet.  And with Derek’s departure, it’s almost certain he’ll be staying.

33  Jason Cain       F    6-10   225   Virginia           R
===========================================================
Pros: 6′ 10″, decent rebounder.  Cons:  Jazz are stacked at this position.  They are looking for another big man, but this isn’t the big man you’re looking for.

 3  Keydren Clark    G    5-10   184   St. Peter’s        R
===========================================================
A generous 5 10.  Went undrafted in the 2006 NBA draft.  He was one of the most prolific scorers in NCAA Division I.  Has also had some interest from the Celtics.  With the Utah Flash now the affiliate NBDL for the Jazz and Celtics, he could end up playing there.  He should be fun to watch at the Revue.

16  Nate Doornekamp  C    7-0    260   Boston College     R
===========================================================
He’s been playing in Germany for the past couple years and will likely return to Europe after the Revue.  Another seven footer, so he’ll always get some looks.  But his numbers in Deutchland weren’t that impressive.

25  Carl Elliott     G    6-4    220   George Washington  R
===========================================================
Another Guard at an already crowded position.  He’s got a couple nice YouTube videos.  He’ll be auditioning for other teams.

 6  Eddie Gill       G    6-0    190   Weber State        5
===========================================================
Has a legit chance to make team as third PG.  But from his career stats, he’s a horrible shooter, even more so beyond the arc.  He does have a nice TO to assist ratio and is a decent ball handler.  He’ll have to impress at the Revue.

17  Levon Kendall    C    6-10   225   Pittsburgh         R
===========================================================
He could be the big man that could develop.  He plays strong defense and has a decent outside shot.  Not sure why he’s listed as a center when he’s played forward for the most part.  I doubt he makes the team, but he’s definitely not just here to fill a spot for the Revue.

23  Matt Lojeski     G    6-6    185   Hawaii             R
===========================================================
Another guard that just isn’t going to have a future with the Jazz.  He’s a good scorer and put up some other good numbers playing in the WAC, but once again, too many guards already with the Jazz.  I could see him getting on with another team though.

42  Kevin Lyde       F    6-10   260   Temple             R
===========================================================
He’s a NBDL vet.  Not sure that’s a good thing.  Not even sure how he’s on the summer league squad.  Seems like a weird fit for him.  Maybe this was done as a favor to an agent of a current player?

21  John Millsap     F    6-6    205   Texas-San Antonio  R
===========================================================
I would love to see nothing more than the Brothers Millsap on the Jazz this year.  But John is shorter than his little brother and playing at the forward position, that’s not a good thing.  I haven’t seen him play at all and he’s probably one of the players I want to see play the most.  I’m rooting for him to come back to training camp.  We need more Millsaps.

30  Wen Mukubu      G/F   6-6    205   Ala.-Birmingham    R
===========================================================
Sorry Wen, I have no idea who you are.  But you had a decent season last year with an impressive 40% from 3-pt land.  But how can you shoot only 66% from the free-throw line?  I’ve never understood this.  It’s known as the Nick Anderson curse.  Maybe when you shoot threes you don’t think about it?  I recommend just getting to the free-throw line and letting it fly as soon as the ref passes it to you.  Good luck.

Well, I’m not making the first game tonight, but I’ll be in the press section for the Jazz/Hawks game.  I’m going to try my best to get all of the questions that were posted asked.  It may take a week though.  Not sure how long players stick around.
